President
TraShif Wilson
Born on December 5, 1983, in Tyler, Texas, TraShif Wilson's journey in music is a powerful narrative of duality, rooted in the very fabric of East Texas culture. He was "born into it," an artist whose life and career have been inextricably linked to the vibrant, soulful soundscapes of the region, while also being shaped by its primary industry—the oil field. This dual life of creative expression and hard manual labor has provided a unique perspective that informs every aspect of his work.
Wilson's undeniable talent was evident from a young age. By the time he was a teenager, his music was already gaining traction on radio stations like 102.7 and 106.9 DaBlaze. This early exposure, a rarity for an artist of his age, was a testament to the quality of his work and the support of key figures like DJ Brain. He honed his skills in "closet studios" and performed at local shows, a grassroots, DIY ethos that has long been a hallmark of hip-hop's most celebrated artists.
The culmination of this early dedication arrived when Wilson was just 15 years old. He released his debut album, "Lil'Trill DaBloccBleeda," a project that not only showcased his lyrical prowess but also his ability to capture the essence of his environment. His musical DNA is a rich tapestry woven from the influences of Southern hip-hop royalty. He credits UGK and, in particular, the late Pimp C, as foundational to his artistic identity, often stating, "If it wudn no PimpC, wudn be no me." This profound admiration for the legendary Port Arthur duo underscores his connection to the genre's authentic roots. Beyond UGK, Wilson's sound was shaped by a diverse array of icons, including the introspective genius of Scarface, the timeless lyricism of 2Pac, the Houston swagger of Lil Keke, the Memphis grind of 8Ball & MJG, and the innovative futurism of OutKast.
In parallel with his musical pursuits, Wilson has dedicated himself to a demanding career in the oil industry. This work ethic, common to many East Texans, is a key part of his identity. It's a life of grit, discipline, and long hours that stands in stark contrast to the creative freedom of his music, yet it is this very contrast that makes his story so compelling. The lessons learned in the field—resilience, attention to detail, and a tireless commitment to a job—are traits he has seamlessly applied to his music and business ventures.
Today, TraShif Wilson's career has evolved beyond the microphone and into the boardroom. In 2025, he was appointed President of KoolWalk Records, a role that signifies a new chapter in his legacy. As a label president, he is uniquely positioned to nurture a new generation of talent while preserving the integrity and spirit of the music that has defined his life. Wilson’s journey—from a teenage artist rocking local shows and working in the oil field to a respected executive—is a powerful narrative of passion, resilience, and unwavering dedication to his craft. He remains a fixture in the East Texas music community, a living embodiment of the scene's enduring influence and a testament to the fact that true talent, like a deep-rooted tree, only grows stronger with time and hard work.
